Will it fit?

Emojis are counted as one character each, the way you see them. X (Twitter) counts most emojis as two, so leave a little room there.

How to use the Character Counter

  1. Paste or type your text.
  2. See the total characters, with and without spaces.
  3. Check the platform bars to see how much room you have left on each.

About this tool

Most platforms cut off text that runs too long: a post on X allows 280 characters, an Instagram caption 2,200, a single SMS 160, and Google usually shows around 155–160 characters of a meta description. This counter shows all of these at once so you can write to fit before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

Do spaces count as characters?

On almost every platform, yes. That’s why the main number includes spaces. The “without spaces” figure is useful for some school and translation work.

Do emojis count as one character?

This counter counts each emoji as one character, the way you see it. Some platforms, like X, count most emojis as two, so leave a little room there.

Why does my SMS split into two messages?

A standard SMS holds 160 characters. Longer messages are split, and using emojis or some special characters lowers the limit to 70.
